Additional Duties

The Register of Deeds Office also records corporation documents, cemetery deeds, marital property agreements, military discharge records and federal tax liens. Recording instruments is the main function of the Register of Deeds Office but in addition to that the office handles vital statistics; that being birth, death and marriage certificates.

Copies of Vital Records

Effective Jan. 1, 2017 residents may no longer have to travel to other counties to obtain their vital records.  Vital record events include: birth, death, marriage, and divorce certificates.

If your event occurred in the State of Wisconsin, you may be able to walk into any Wisconsin Register of Deeds office to pick up your vital record.  At the onset in 2017, there will be limitations since not all of the records will be in the state data base.  Births from 1994, deaths from Sept. 1, 2013 & marriages from May 18, 2015 to present will be available statewide.  Any birth from 1907 to 1993 can be loaded into the State Vital Records System and made available at the Price County Register of Deeds Office. Older records will become available as the State Vital Records office completes back scanning & indexing projects.

The Register of Deeds Office  wants to emphasis that not all state wide records will be available at the implementation of this service.  It may take a few years for all vital records to be available state wide, but we are working hard towards that goal.  Our advises you to call ahead to inquire about the records available prior to coming into our office.  The Price County Register of Deeds phone number is 715-339-2515.

Current fees for vital records are $20.00 for the first copy and $3.00 for each addition copy of the same record.  This fee is same for births, deaths and marriages.
