Plan to bring a touring or mountain bike to Price County. Experience the hundreds of miles of scenic on-road routes and off-road trails available to bikers, including over 90 mile of trails exclusively for non-motorized use. Biking through Price County will take you on a variety of routes through rolling terrain, ranging from upland ridges to lowland marshes. TRAIL DESCRIPTIONS

  Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest (CNNF)
  Logging Roads & Multi-Use Trails

Location:   North and East of the cities of Phillips, Fifield and Park Falls. Best entry points to trails are from the Solberg Lake Trail, Wintergreen Trail and Newman Springs Trail.

Skill Level: Technical Difficulty: Easy to moderate.

                      Aerobic Level: Moderate.

Trail Description:   Wide twin track. There are over 100 miles of logging roads and multi-use trails open to Mountain Biking in the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest. The trails offer a generally hard packed trail surface with some loose rock, sand and water holes. ATV traffic is regularly encountered. Trails are marked although the logging roads may not be. Special points of interest include the covered bridge at the Smith Rapids campground and the historic wooden logging dam at Round Lake.   Flambeau Hills Ski Trail

Location:   22 miles west of Philips on County Highway W. Length: 14 miles on ski trails, additional mileage on adjacent ATV trails and the Oxbo Ski Trail (not maintained).

Trail Type:   Loop

Skill Level: Technical Difficulty: Easy to moderate.

                      Aerobic Level: Moderate.

Season:    May to November

Trail Description:   Wide twin track. Very hilly, with no major climbs. At most the climbs cover 40 feet of elevation before descending again to do it all over.  The Snuss trail, located at the north end of the Flambeau Hills system travels along the Flambeau River to connect with the Oxbo system just north of State Highway 70. A three-sided shelter with a fire ring and picnic table is provided as a rest area on the west side of the upper loop. There are ATV trails adjacent to the ski trails. The ATV trails offer a generally hardpacked trail surface with some loose rock, sand and water holes.   ATV trails are open to snowmobiles when snow covered.   Donations are accepted at the trailhead.   A Wisconsin State Trail Pass is required. The daily fee can be paid at the trailhead or an annual trail pass can be purchased at the trailhead, the forest headquarters located on County Road W (715-332-5271) or any DNR service station (715-762-3204).  To view a map of the trail, go to http://www.pricecountywi.net/trails/flambeauhills.html

  High Point Ski Trails

Location:   3 miles east of Ogema on State Highway 86.   South on County Highway C 1 mile to intersection with Rustic Road, left to Timm's Hill County Park.

Length:   9 miles on ski trails

Trail Type:   Point-to-Point

Skill Level: Technical Difficulty: Moderate to difficult.

                      Aerobic Level: Moderate to difficult.

Trail Description:   This is a shared use trail used by bikers and hikers.  The trail consists of narrow single track over rolling terrain.   There are some steep hills on this trail.  The trail climbs to the lookout tower at the top of Timm's Hill, the highest point in Wisconsin.  To view a map of the trail, go to http://www.pricecountywi.net/trails/timms.html.  This trail connects to the Timm's Hill Ski Trails.

  Holy Cross Ski Trails

Location:   7 miles north of Phillips on State Highway 13.   1.5 miles east on Holy Cross road.

Length:   7.5 miles on ski trails, additional mileage on Snowmobile trails and roads connecting to Solberg Lake Ski Trail and Rock Creek Trails.

Trail Type:   Loop

Skill Level: Technical Difficulty: Easy to moderate.

                      Aerobic Level: Easy to moderate.

Season:    May to November

Trail Description: Wide twin track on rolling terrain with a loop that surrounds a small lake.   The southern loop is flatter than the north loop and east loops.   The trails are mowed in the fall for Grouse hunting.   Additional mileage is available by exiting the trail system at the north parking lot and turning south on Hick's Landing road and continuing to the Solberg Lake Ski trail and the Solberg Lake campground.  To view a map of the trail, go to http://www.pricecountywi.net/trails/holycross.html

  Log Jam Trail

Location:   1 mile north of Phillips on State Highway 13. 1.5 miles east on Old Highway 13 road.   Turn right on Squaw Creek road to parking lot.

Length:   6 miles on ski trails, 3 miles of single track.

Trail Type:   Loop

Skill Level: Technical Difficulty: Easy to difficult.

                      Aerobic Level: Moderate to difficult.

Season:    May to November

Trail Description:   Wide twin track on rolling terrain with some steep hills.   The maximum elevation gain of 40 feet is deceiving because there are many sharp climbs and descents.   The trail also features tight, twisting single track that crosses the ski trail in several places to allow a mixture technically challenging and aerobically challenging riding.  To view a map of the trail, go to http://www.pricecountywi.net/trails/logjam.html

  Newman Springs Ski Trail

Location:   12 miles east of Park Falls on State Highway 182.

Length:   6 miles on ski trails, additional mileage connecting to ATV trails.

Trail Type:   Loop

Skill Level: Technical Difficulty: Easy to moderate.

                      Aerobic Level: Easy to moderate.

Season:    May to November

Directions: From the intersection of State Highways 13 and 182 in Park Falls, drive east 12.5 miles on Highway 182 to the trailhead which is on the right (south) side of the highway.

Trail Description:   The main ski trail has several low areas that do not make it favorable for mountain biking.   However, the western edge of the trail system features rolling terrain and connects to ATV trail 105.   This is a beautiful section of trail overlooking the springs.  A National Forest parking fee is required.  The daily fee can be paid at the trailhead.  An annual sticker can be purchased at the Forest Service Office on Hwy. 13 in Park Falls.  To view a map of the trail, go to http://www.pricecountywi.net/trails/Newman.html

  Oxbo Ski Trail

Location: 12 miles west of Fifield on State Highway 70.

Length:   6 miles on ski trails, additional mileage on Flambeau Hills Ski Trail and adjacent ATV trails.

Trail Type:   Loop

Skill Level: Technical Difficulty: Easy to moderate.

                      Aerobic Level: Moderate.

Season:    May to November

Trail Description:   Wide twin track.   Pine Line Trail

Location:   Connects the city of Prentice in Price County to the city of Medford in Taylor County.

Length:   28 miles

Trail Type:   Point-to-Point

Skill Level: Technical Difficulty: Easy.

                      Aerobic Level: Easy to moderate.

Season:    May to November

Trail Description:   This trail was created from an abandoned railroad right of way.   The surface is covered in crushed gravel.   There are no significant hills on this route.  For more information, go to http://www.pricecountywi.net/trails/pineline.html

  Rock Creek Trail

Location:   7 miles north of Phillips on State Highway 13.   1.5 miles west on Rock Creek road.

Length:   4 miles

Trail Type:   Loop

Skill Level: Technical Difficulty: Easy to moderate.

                      Aerobic Level: Moderate.

Season:   May to November

Trail Description:   This trail system consists of as series of logging trails adjacent to Rock Creek road and Lugerville Grade road.   All the logging trails are wide double track with gently rolling to long steep climbs available.   To view a map of the trail, go to http://www.pricecountywi.net/trails/rockcreek.html

  Round Lake Ski Trail

Location:   16 miles east of Field on State Highway 70, 2 miles north on Forest Road 144 to Round Lake Dam parking area.

Length:   7 miles

Trail Type:   Loop

Skill Level: Technical Difficulty: Easy to moderate.

                      Aerobic Level: Moderate.

Season:   May to November

Directions: From Fifield, drive east on Highway 70 for 20 miles. Turn left (north) on Forest Road 144 and drive 2 miles to Forest Road 535. Turn right (east) on 535 and continue to the trailhead parking.

Trail Description:   Rolling terrain on wide twin track ski trails.   This is a very scenic trail that travels around the perimeter of Round Lake.   Stay to the right as you travel on the trail.   The loops to the northwest have sections of bog.   The trail exits the woods east of round lake and continues on Cole's Point road to the intersection with Forest Road 144.   ATV trails are accessible from the parking lot and travel south and west towards the Smith Rapids campground and the covered bridge and north and west toward the Newman Springs ski trail area.  A National Forest parking fee is required.  The daily fee can be paid at the trailhead.  An annual sticker can be purchased at the Forest Service Office on Hwy. 13 in Park Falls.  To view a map of the trail, go to http://www.pricecountywi.net/trails/roundlake.html

  Solberg Lake Ski Trail

Location:      1 mile east of Field on State Highway 70, 8 miles south on Hick's Landing Road

Length:   3.5 miles on ski trails, additional mileage connecting to forest roads.  

Trail Type:   Loop

Skill Level: Technical Difficulty: Easy.

                      Aerobic Level: Easy to moderate.

Season:    May to November

Trail Description:   Gently rolling terrain on wide twin track ski trails.   This trail is favored in the winter by families and beginner skiers.   The trail is a short distance from the Solberg Lake Campgrounds.  To view a map of the trail, go to http://www.pricecountywi.net/trails/solberg2.html

  Timm's Hill Ski Trails

Location:   There is limited parking  to the south at points where the trail intersects County Highway C.  From Ogema, take State Highway 86 south to County Hwy. C.  The first point where the trail intersects County Hwy. C is 2.5 miles. The second is about a 1/2 mile further and the third is about 1.5 miles further.   There is also a parking lot at the south end of the trail off County Hwy. C near Rib Lake.

Length:   7.5 miles on ski trails, additional mileage connecting to the High Point Ski Trail to the north and the National Ice Age Scenic Trail/Rib Lake Area Ski Trail to the south.

Directions:   Hwy. 13 to Ogema, 5 miles east on Hwy. 86, south about a ½ mile on County C, then east about ½ mile on Rustic Road 62.

Trail Description:   Wide twin track on rolling terrain. The trail climbs to the lookout tower at the top of Timm's Hill, the highest point in Wisconsin. The trail connects the High Point Ski Trails in the Timm's Hill area to the Rib Lake Area Ski Trails to the south.

  Tuscobia State Trail

Location:   Park Falls to Birchwood

Length:   62-mile rail trail

Trail Type:   Point-to-Point

Skill Level: Technical Difficulty: Easy.

                      Aerobic Level: Easy to moderate.

Directions:  The Park Falls–Tuscobia Trailhead County Park is the perfect location to begin your journey with ample 24-hour parking, maps, a picnic area, pavilion, play area, grills, and a flush toilet building that is open from mid-spring to mid-fall. The park is located off Hwy. 13 west on County Road E about 1/4 mile to Park Road then north 1/4 mile to the park .

Trail Description:   This trail was created from an abandoned railroad right of way.   Trail open to ATV's and is frequently traveled.   For more information, visit www.tuscobiatrail.com.   

  Wintergreen Ski Trail

Location:   Located 4 miles east of Fifield on State Highway 70.

Length:   6 miles on ski trails, additional mileage connecting to ATV trails.

Trail Type:   Looping

Skill Level:   Technical Difficulty: Easy to moderate.

                        Aerobic Level: Easy to moderate.

Season:    May to November

Directions: Wintergreen Trailhead (parking fee) - From Fifield drive east 7.5 miles on Highway 70 to the trailhead which is on the left (north) side of the road.

Trail Description:   Hilly, rolling terrain on wide twin track ski trails.    The "A" loop crosses a bog and is not recommended for biking.   Loop "B" and "C" are excellent for biking.   On the northeast edge of loop "C" a short single track connects to ATV trails.   Loop "D" is very hilly with steep ascents and descents.   ATV trails are also located south and east of the Wintergreen Trail parking lot.

There is a shelter at the trailhead on Hwy. 70.  A National Forest parking fee is required.  The daily fee can be paid at the trailhead.  An annual sticker can be purchased at the Forest Service Office on Hwy. 13 in Park Falls.  To view a map of the trail, go to http://www.pricecountywi.net/trails/wintergreen2.html
